Industrial pharmacy students: go for an engineering diploma!
The study path of a pharmacist-engineer was created in response to the clearly expressed needs of the pharmaceutical industry for people with the duel competence of a pharmacist and an engineer.
This combined course was developed in partnership with the Universities of Tours, Marseilles, Montpellier, Chatenay, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Nantes and the Pharmacenter of the University of Basel (Switzerland).
Pharmacy students who want to go into industry, having validated the first 5 years of pharmaceutical studies can apply for admission according to qualifications to the 3rd year at the Ecole des Mines. After 2 years of study, they obtain the engineering diploma.
Providing that a convention has been signed with the relevant pharmacy faculty, these two years allow validation of the 6th year of pharmacy, thus leading to the award of a diploma in pharmacy by the pharmacy faculty.
This training gives pharmacy students cross-disciplinary training in generic methods whilst allowing them to deepen their knowledge of a given field in the option year.
The pharmaceutical industry needs managers to run its production
units: the dual competence of a Pharmacist (with knowledge of
medicines) and an Engineer (with strong technology skills and
organizational capacities) is particularly highly valued.
This
training also leads some pharmacist-engineers into R&D
positions, principally in the field of galenics.
